Conferences and Symposia

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians welcomes you to the Intertribal Timber Council’s Forty-Seventh Annual National Indian Timber Symposium being held May 13-16, 2024, at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort and Convention Center in Cherokee, NC. Aligning with this year’s symposium theme “Restoring Tribal Relations and Values to the Land” with the oldest of beliefs and stories of the Cherokee is that we are just visitors here. Everything in the natural environment came before humans and plays an important role and contributes to the balance of the world as we know it. During the symposium we wish to display this connection to the land and forests that make up the Qualla boundary, as well as the extended traditional homelands of the Cherokee. Speakers and tribal tours will attempt to highlight the importance of tribal lands and reestablishing management in line with traditional cultural knowledge to restore tribal trust as well as wider surrounding lands through the cooperative relationships formed across multiple agencies. Symposium officially BEGINS on Monday, May 13, from 3 pm - 5 pm, all attendees check in at the Cherokee Convention Center and pick up your name tag. At 5 pm head to the Host Icebreaker at Unto These Hills Outdoor Theater.
